M&A Reporter – US Intelligence Origination

About the role

Gain is expanding its Intelligence Origination team in the United States and is looking for an M&A Reporter to cover US private‑equity transactions. The reporter will produce news‑style intelligence on live deals for a global subscriber base, using AI‑assisted editorial workflows and original source reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Build, cultivate and maintain an extensive network of off‑record sources across investment banks, private‑equity firms, lenders, law firms and consulting groups.
• Conduct daily confidential conversations to uncover non‑public details on deal activity, including financials, valuation ranges, process stage and bidder interest.
• Monitor emerging M&A transactions and provide continuous local market coverage through independent reporting.
• Produce accurate, timely intelligence reports that meet journalistic standards of fact‑checking, source verification and double‑sourcing.
• Leverage AI‑driven editorial tools to translate source insights into publishable news updates.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial journalism, deal sourcing or private‑equity research.
• Deep understanding of the US private‑equity M&A ecosystem and its key participants.
• Strong ability to develop high‑trust relationships and conduct off‑record interviews.
• Excellent written communication and editorial judgment.
• Commitment to confidentiality and rigorous verification standards.
