Logistics Specialist – Emergency Preparedness

About the role

The Logistics Specialist supports the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Emergency Preparedness and Response mission. You will manage day‑to‑day warehouse operations, inventory control, and distribution of medical countermeasures, PPE, and pharmaceuticals to statewide partners. The role ensures assets are received, stored, inventoried, and distributed safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct cycle counts, reconcile discrepancies, and maintain accurate inventory records using the warehouse management system.
• Inspect and receive shipments, label, store, and segregate temperature‑sensitive or hazardous items in compliance with CDC/FDA requirements.
• Pick, pack, and stage materials for distribution, generating shipping documentation and coordinating with carriers.
• Monitor and document temperature and humidity levels for refrigerated and frozen storage units, supporting cold‑chain protocols during emergencies.
• Assist with rapid staging, packing, and deployment of emergency supplies during activation events and extended shift rotations.

Required profile

• Understanding of warehouse workflows including receiving, storage, picking, packing, and shipping.
• Knowledge of inventory management, cold‑chain requirements, and CDC/FDA guidelines for medical products.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety standards, hazardous material handling, and warehouse security procedures.

Required skills

• Operation of floor forklifts, pallet jacks, and barcode scanners.
• Use of warehouse management and inventory software for tracking stock levels.
• Temperature monitoring and documentation for refrigerated and frozen assets.
• Application of OSHA safety protocols and PPE usage.
