About the role

Abilene Christian University (ACU) is hiring a locksmith to maintain and install locks, manage the key system and protect the security of campus buildings. The position is within the Physical Resources Department and requires the employee to be a professing Christian and willing to support the university's Christian mission. Background checks are conducted for security-sensitive positions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and install locks, door hardware, exit devices, alarms, entry systems and associated components.
• Develop a preventive maintenance program for doors and hardware.
• Re-key locks for security, cut and issue keys to authorized personnel, and keep an accurate record of all keys and locks.
• Follow department rules and procedures, order materials, and complete work orders and daily reports.
• Work alone or in groups, put together estimates for minor projects, and stay on call 24 hours a day.
• Maintain the building key inventory, develop key schedules with computer software, and control the security of the key stock.
• Install and maintain door closers.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four years of related experience as a locksmith.
• Licensed as a certified locksmith.
• Honest, trustworthy and dependable, with good moral character.
• Able to perform manual labor, lift and carry loads over 50 pounds, climb ladders and work in adverse conditions.
• Willingness to receive continuing education, locksmith training and computer training as required by the university.

Required skills

• Knowledge of key cutters and key systems.
• Able to operate portable drills and hand tools.
• Able to read hardware schedules, blueprints, plans, sketches and work orders.
