Local Reporting Network Fellow

About the role

ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network seeks experienced investigative reporters to join a one‑year fellowship partnership with their home newsroom. Fellows will receive a grant covering a full‑time salary (up to $80,000 plus a 25% benefits allowance) and will work on a community‑focused investigative project.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an investigative reporting project that addresses a unique local need.
• Collaborate closely with ProPublica editors, data, research, and engagement teams.
• Produce stories that will be published simultaneously by the fellow’s newsroom and ProPublica.
• Submit a project memo outlining scope, methodology, and impact goals.

Required profile

• Proven track record of investigative reporting with measurable impact.
• Ability to articulate why the story is essential for the local community.
• Experience working within a newsroom environment and managing a year‑long reporting project.
