About the role
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Legal Officer (P) to join its Contract Law Division in Washington, United States. The incumbent will support the Office of Legal Affairs by delivering timely legal advice and ensuring that IOM’s operations comply with its governing legal framework.
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal advice to the Director General, Deputy Directors General, Regional and Country Offices, and other IOM units.
- Interpret and apply the IOM Constitution, governing body decisions, staff regulations, financial regulations, and relevant international law.
- Assist the Legal Counsel and Division Head in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents.
- Support the implementation of the Office of Legal Affairs’ policies and procedures to promote efficient and lawful operations.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in law, public international law or a related field with at least five years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with at least seven years of experience.
- Admission to practice law in the United States (U.S. qualified lawyer).
- Demonstrated experience in contract law, public international law, or related legal areas within an international or multilateral organization.
