Legal Advocate (Part‑time)

About the role

JBWS is seeking a compassionate, dynamic part‑time Legal Advocate to support survivors of domestic violence. The role involves providing legal information, assistance with filings, and advocacy throughout legal proceedings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal information on the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act and related statutes.
• Assist survivors in filing complaints and attending court or other legal proceedings.
• Offer advocacy tailored to individual needs and help clients make informed decisions.
• Accompany survivors to legal proceedings and maintain professional demeanor with court staff.
• Plan and deliver educational legal information sessions.
• Document client statistics and maintain accurate records.

Required profile

• BA in Social Work or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum three years of case‑management experience.
• Fluent bilingual English/Spanish (preferred).
• Strong relationship‑building skills with community partners and court personnel.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to crises.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity to marginalized populations.
