Lead Data Scientist – Remote

About the role

Cobalt is seeking a remote Lead Data Scientist to drive analytical insights and data‑driven decision‑making for AI labs and institutional clients. You will build and manage a high‑performing data science team, develop analytics strategies, and deliver actionable intelligence across the artificial intelligence and finance domains.

Key responsibilities

• Build and lead the data science organization, establishing methodologies, frameworks, and best practices for institutional‑grade analytics.
• Own the full analytics lifecycle—from problem formulation to model deployment—serving AI labs, institutional investors, funds, and professionals.
• Develop and execute analytics strategies for new products and market segments, translating business needs into technical requirements.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to refine data pipelines, feature development, and model deployment strategies.
• Drive measurable impact through predictive models, statistical analysis, and machine‑learning solutions while maintaining rigor and interpretability.

Required profile

• Proven track record in applied data science, preferably delivering solutions to institutional or enterprise customers.
• Experience building and scaling data science teams and establishing ML/analytics processes from early stages.
• Strong understanding of statistical methods, machine‑learning techniques, experimentation frameworks, and model evaluation metrics.
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex technical concepts for C‑level executives.
• Strategic thinker able to identify high‑impact analytical opportunities and deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Self‑motivated and able to thrive in a remote, fast‑paced environment.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, or a related quantitative field preferred.
