Laboratory Technician Apprentice

About the role

BASF is hiring a Laboratory Technician Apprentice for its Performance Materials team in Sparta, Tennessee. The apprentice joins a team that ensures the quality of performance polymers used in products such as auto interiors, mirror and window housings, power tool housings, furniture applications, electrical switches and wall plates. The apprenticeship is part of a BASF-specific program combining on-site study at the Sparta facility with hands-on work in quality control.

Key responsibilities

• Perform physical and chemical testing on products according to sample plans
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accurate data
• Operate and maintain the molding machine for preparing test specimens
• Run tests and record results according to written QC procedures and test methods
• Develop and write QC procedures, policies and test methods
• Aid in maintaining the Quality Control Quality System and laboratory equipment
• Learn quality database systems and enter test data correctly
• Perform non-routine chemical and physical testing

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Able to work in a quality control laboratory and lift 50 lbs
• Able to work 12-hour fixed shifts, day or night, including weekends, holidays and off days
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
