Lab Support Technician II – Histology (PRN)

About the role

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences seeks a Lab Support Technician II to provide PRN histology support up to 8 hours per week. The technician will receive immunohistochemistry orders, prepare and deliver slides, and assist with specimen processing in a fast‑paced clinical laboratory.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, label, accession and gross surgical, biopsy and other tissue specimens.
• Prepare tissue cassettes, operate tissue processors, embedder, microtome and staining equipment.
• Perform slide preparation, including routine and special stains, and ensure accurate patient identification.
• Maintain quality control on laboratory equipment and perform QC checks on slides, blocks and specimens.
• Manage inventory of reagents, supplies, cassettes and slides, and keep the laboratory clean and organized.
• Assist histotechnologists, pathologists and other staff with daily operations and special projects.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least two years of clinical laboratory experience.
• Proof of legal authority to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Immunohistochemistry order processing and slide preparation.
• Operation of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy and staining equipment.
• Use of a laboratory information system for documentation.
• Inventory management of histology reagents and supplies.
• Compliance with OSHA, CAP, CLIA, HIPAA and infection‑control policies.
