Lab Support Technician I – Core Lab Support

About the role

The Lab Support Technician I provides comprehensive support for patient‑care activities in the Core Laboratory of UAMS. Working under the supervision of the section supervisor and senior technician, the role ensures timely and accurate processing of specimens from multiple sources.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and verify specimens, ensuring proper collection, labeling, and tube type.
• Sort specimens, load racks onto automation lines, and scan them into the EPIC system.
• Enter orders and process add‑on tests in EPIC for external institutions.
• Answer phone inquiries, process timed urine, mail‑in, reference, VA and ACH specimens, and reconcile packing lists.
• Call critical results and complete safety intelligence reports for the Core Lab Manager.
• Maintain accurate documentation and support specimen tracking throughout the workflow.

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
• Ability to work in a laboratory environment with frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 lb.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
• Willingness to undergo pre‑employment screening including TB test, background check, and substance‑abuse testing.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the EPIC electronic health‑record system for specimen scanning and order entry.
