About the role
The Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Juvenile Probation/Parole Specialist to support rehabilitation of young offenders in the Richmond CSO, HITS, and Richmond Intake units. The specialist will work under broad supervision to develop and monitor treatment and compliance plans.
Key responsibilities
- Interview probationers and parolees regularly to assess progress toward rehabilitation goals.
- Recommend remedial or court action for non‑compliance with probation or parole terms.
- Administer drug and alcohol testing, including random screens.
- Prepare and maintain case files for each assigned offender.
- Discuss how substance abuse or anger management issues relate to criminal behavior.
- Conduct pre‑hearing investigations and provide background recommendations for sentencing.
- Inform offenders of conditional release requirements such as office visits, restitution, education, and employment stipulations.
- Write progress reports and evaluations, and arrange medical, mental health, or substance‑abuse treatment as ordered.
- Supervise community‑based sentences, including electronic monitoring, home detention, and curfew checks.
Required profile
- Associate degree in a related field plus four years of relevant social‑services experience, or six years of direct case‑management experience with offenders, or two years at the lower‑level Juvenile Probation/Parole Specialist 2.
- Must obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
- Ability to meet agency physical‑agility standards and pass required assessments.
