Juvenile Correctional Sergeant – Muscogee YDC (Midland, GA)

About the role

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant to work at the Muscogee Youth Development Center in Midland, GA. In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth while supporting their rehabilitation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and SOPs.
• Provide direct guidance, structure, and positive role‑modeling to promote pro‑social behavior.
• Complete administrative paperwork, records, and reports accurately.
• Inspect, inventory, and control security equipment and technology.
• Supervise and train subordinate correctional staff; act as shift supervisor when needed.
• Monitor youth behavior, intervene when necessary, and ensure a safe, disciplined environment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 6 months experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (or equivalent) or four years of military service.
• Ability to complete Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced leadership training within six months.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain State of Georgia POST certification within six months of hire.

Required skills

• POST certification (Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training).
• Proficiency with security equipment and related technology.
• Strong written and verbal communication for report preparation.
