Juvenile Correctional Sergeant – Metro RYDC (Atlanta, GA)

About the role

The Juvenile Correctional Sergeant will work in the Metro RYDC facility in Atlanta, providing a safe, therapeutic and educational environment for detained youth. The position involves supervising staff, maintaining security, and supporting the rehabilitation of juveniles.

Key responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for the custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and standard operating procedures.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure for detained youth, emphasizing safety, personal conduct, care, and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork, maintain records, forms, and reports.
• Inspect, inventory, and control security equipment and technology to ensure a safe environment.
• Maintain order and discipline through active supervision and intervention with inappropriate behavior.
• Support training, selection, and orientation of subordinate correctional security staff.
• Review youth information to identify issues requiring special attention.
• Oversee officer activities and performance to ensure the welfare of youth.
• Serve as Shift Supervisor in the absence of the Lieutenant.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED and six months experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (PSP222) or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within the first six months, or four years of military experience.
• Possession and maintenance of State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within the first six months of employment.
• Ability to meet agency physical agility standards and pass required assessments.
