Juvenile Correctional Sergeant – Atlanta YDC (College Park)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant to work at the Atlanta Youth Development Center (YDC) in College Park. In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic and educational environment for detained youth while supporting the facility’s overall mission.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security and care of youth in accordance with department policies and standard operating procedures.
• Provide direct support, guidance and structure to promote pro‑social behavior, safety and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork, records and reports related to youth care.
• Inspect, inventory and control security equipment and technology used in the facility.
• Supervise and train subordinate correctional staff, and act as shift supervisor when required.
• Intervene with youth to maintain order, discipline and a secure environment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least six months experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (or equivalent).
• Successful completion of Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate and Advanced training within the first six months, or four years of military experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet physical agility standards.
