Juvenile Correctional Officer – Metro RYDC (Atlanta, GA)

About the role

Join the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice as a Juvenile Correctional Officer at the Metro Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC) in Atlanta. You will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth, guiding them toward positive behavior and rehabilitation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and standard operating procedures.
• Conduct contraband searches, security counts, and supervise youth in housing units, classrooms, and other facility areas.
• Intervene with youth to maintain order, using active supervision and behavior management techniques.
• Oversee the movement and transition of youth within and between facilities, including transportation and temporary leave.
• Promote adaptive behavior through positive reinforcement, verbal coaching, and role modeling.
• Screen visitors and staff to prevent unauthorized access and contraband entry.
• Utilize security equipment and technology to ensure the safety of youth and staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to meet agency physical agility standards and pass a validated physical assessment.

Required skills
