Juvenile Correctional Officer – Atlanta YDC

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks dedicated individuals to serve as Juvenile Correctional Officers at the Atlanta Youth Development Center (YDC). In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth, supporting their rehabilitation and personal growth.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with Department of Juvenile Justice policies and procedures.
• Conduct contraband searches, security counts, and supervise youth in housing units, classrooms, and other facility areas.
• Intervene with youth through active supervision to maintain order and discipline.
• Manage movement and transition of youth within and between facilities, including transport and temporary leave.
• Promote adaptive behavior using positive reinforcement, redirection, and verbal coaching.
• Screen visitors and staff, control access, and operate security equipment and technology.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license.
