Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant – Columbus, GA

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a dedicated Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant to join the Aaron Cohn Regional Youth Detention Center in Columbus, GA. In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth while supervising staff and ensuring compliance with department policies.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with DJJ policies and standard operating procedures.
• Supervise a unit or program as shift supervisor, providing direct support, guidance, and structure to detained youth.
• Enforce order and discipline through active supervision and intervention.
• Plan, assign, and oversee work of subordinate staff, including contraband searches and equipment control.
• Complete administrative paperwork, maintain records, and prepare required reports.
• Develop and update security procedures and ensure compliance with all facility regulations.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED plus at least one year as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP223) or equivalent, OR two years of military service at E‑5 rank or higher.
• Ability to obtain and maintain State of Georgia POST certification within six months of hire.
• Physical ability to perform demanding security tasks and respond to emergencies.
• Strong interpersonal skills to model patience, empathy, cooperation, professionalism, and respect.
