JSC Operator (Utility Plant)

About the role

Amentum, a PAE company, is hiring an Operator to work onsite at the NASA Johnson Space Center. The operator supports the safe operation of the site's utilities at Johnson Space Center, Ellington Field and Sonny Carter Training Facility, and takes electronic readings on equipment such as boilers, chillers and air compressors.

Key responsibilities

• Support the safe operation of the site and its utility configuration control.
• Take electronic readings on equipment, boilers, chillers and air compressors.
• Visually inspect building pumps (condensate, chill water and boiler feed).
• Start and stop equipment as instructed (chillers and pumps).
• Monitor steam boilers and open and close valves as instructed by the Chief Operator.
• Work utility procedures and perform water analysis of boiler and cooling tower waters.
• May be required to work in an operation call center, write work orders, work in small mechanical rooms and tunnels, and work in a utility plant.

Required profile

• High school diploma and minimum 2 years of plant experience in a chemical or water plant.
• U.S. citizenship (required for the NASA badge) and a valid Texas driver's license.
• Ability to read, speak and write English effectively.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen, and be able to stay on site during a hurricane for 48-72 hours.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs and work in hot and cold environments.
• Prior knowledge of the NASA site and experience on government installations preferred.

Required skills

• Understanding of piping systems, cooling towers, boilers, pumps and motors.
• Working knowledge of potable water treatment and distribution, refrigeration systems (chillers) and boiler chemistry.
• Understanding of cooling, steam, water distribution, sanitary sewer and heating and cooling systems.
