Interventional Pain Procedural Clinic Registered Nurse

About the role

The Interventional Pain Procedural Clinic RN provides direct patient care for individuals undergoing image‑guided pain management procedures at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The RN works closely with physicians to ensure safe, efficient and compassionate delivery of pain therapies.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients before procedures by reviewing medical history, allergies, medications, labs and baseline vital signs.
• Prepare patients for interventional pain procedures, verify informed consent and educate them on expectations.
• Assist physicians during epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablations, spinal cord stimulator trials and other image‑guided interventions.
• Maintain sterile technique, set up procedure rooms, equipment, medications and supplies.
• Administer medications including moderate sedation (when credentialed), local anesthetics, IV and emergency drugs per orders.
• Monitor patients continuously during procedures for vital sign changes, pain levels and complications.
• Provide post‑procedure recovery care, manage discomfort, assess for adverse reactions and deliver discharge instructions.
• Document assessments, interventions, medications, procedural details and outcomes in the electronic health record.

Required profile

• Graduate of an ASBN‑approved nursing program (Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s or Diploma).
• Valid Arkansas Registered Nurse license.
• At least one year of direct RN nursing care experience; two years preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification for procedural area.
