About the role
SkySpecs offers a fast‑paced environment where technicians travel across the United States to perform internal blade inspections on wind turbines. Rotations are typically 3‑5 weeks on‑site followed by a week off, with flexibility in schedule. The role combines field work, advanced drone/rover technology, and close collaboration with safety and quality teams.
Key responsibilities
- Execute internal blade inspections using remote‑sensing drones, rovers or crawlers while climbing turbines and entering nacelle and hub areas.
- Manipulate operational controls of customer wind turbine assets and support equipment in compliance with SkySpecs and industry safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot electronic and mechanical inspection equipment and provide feedback to operational leadership.
- Travel up to 80% of the time on 3‑5 week rotations, managing personal logistics with guidance from project managers.
- Maintain required certifications and currencies, and collaborate with Inspection Services, Safety, and Quality teams to meet project schedules and data‑quality standards.
Required profile
- Junior: 1+ year field‑service experience or completion of a wind‑turbine technical training program; Senior: 3+ years field‑service experience across multiple turbine platforms.
- WINDA ID and GWO BST (modules 1‑4) or equivalent training, Confined Space and Advanced Rescue certifications, Respirator fit test and Fit‑for‑Duty examination.
- Ability to travel up to 80% domestically and internationally, with a valid driver’s license and passport.
- Excellent physical condition – able to climb 2‑3 towers per day, lift 50 lb, crawl in tight spaces, and stand for long periods.
Required skills
- Operation of internal inspection drones and rover/crawler platforms.
- WINDA ID certification.
- GWO Basic Safety Training (modules 1‑4).
- Confined Space training.
- Advanced Rescue training.
