Oceaneering Group Enterprise · Chesapeake
Job description
About the role
Oceaneering’s Marine Services Division (MSD) is seeking a highly skilled Inside Machinist with CNC programming, setup, and machining expertise to support the manufacturing of complex, critical submarine components in a low‑volume, build‑to‑print environment. The work consists of one‑off and non‑repeat builds with tight tolerances, exotic alloys, and high‑quality standards that directly support the U.S. Navy submarine fleet.
Key responsibilities
- Review, edit, and optimize CNC programs (lathe and mill) using G‑code and CAM platforms.
- Set up, align, and secure workpieces, fixtures, and tooling on CNC and manual machines; conduct first‑article runs.
- Operate a wide range of equipment—including lathes, mills, grinders, and saws—to machine complex components from HY‑80, HY‑100, stainless steel, Inconel, and other submarine‑grade alloys.
- Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T callouts, and technical work documents to plan machining processes for one‑off parts.
- Inspect and verify machined features with precision metrology tools and record measurements to ensure compliance with critical tolerances.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Planning to resolve issues and maintain first‑time quality.
Required profile
- High School Diploma/GED and at least five years of experience machining complex submarine, aerospace, defense, or nuclear components.
- Proficiency in programming, reviewing, and editing CNC programs for lathe and mill operations.
- Ability to operate both CNC and manual machine tools independently, including multi‑axis (4‑axis/5‑axis) machining.
- Strong capability to read and interpret advanced blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications without supervision.
- Working knowledge of shop math, first‑article inspections, and precision measurement documentation.
- U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship).
Required skills
- CNC programming (G‑code) and CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks).
- Operation of CNC and manual lathes, mills, grinders, and saws.
- Multi‑axis machining (4‑axis, 5‑axis).
- Precision measurement tools: micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, dial indicators.
- Interpretation of GD&T and complex engineering drawings.
- Shop math and first‑article inspection techniques.
What we offer
- Competitive hourly rate of $33‑$44.
- $5,000 sign‑on bonus.
- Comprehensive benefits package including health, mental health, retirement savings, life & disability insurance, paid parental leave, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and employee assistance program.
