Human Resources Officer – Professional

About the role

The Human Resources Officer will manage the HR functions of the Washington D.C. Global Office of the International Organization for Migration. Reporting to the Chief of the Global and Domestic Programmes Unit and the Senior Resources Management Officer, the role works closely with the Regional Office in Panama and HR units at Headquarters and the Global Shared Services Centre.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and staff placement processes.
• Administer performance management, staff development, and training programmes.
• Maintain employee records, HR data, and HR information systems.
• Ensure compliance with IOM policies, UN regulations, and local labour laws.
• Provide guidance on employee relations, grievance handling, and disciplinary actions.
• Coordinate with regional and headquarters HR teams to align HR strategies.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Social Sciences or a related field.
• Professional experience in human resources management, preferably within an international or UN‑related organization.
• Strong understanding of HR best practices, recruitment, performance management and employee relations.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and collaborate across global teams.
