About the role
The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking an hourly‑paid physician to provide direct medical care to individuals receiving behavioral health and developmental services. This position works on a rotating shift schedule and focuses on comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct thorough medical evaluations, including physical exams, history reviews, and diagnostic testing.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions, prescribing medications and therapeutic interventions.
- Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Document all clinical findings, orders, and interventions in electronic health records.
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency medical care as needed.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and grand rounds.
- Educate patients and families on health conditions, medication management, and preventive care.
Required profile
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited school.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in Georgia.
- Board certification or eligibility in a relevant specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Psychiatry) preferred.
- Minimum two years of clinical experience, preferably with behavioral health or developmental disability populations.
Required skills
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems.
