Horticultural Attendant – Athletic Grounds

About the role

The Horticultural Attendant provides skilled, non‑supervisory labor to maintain the landscaping, grounds, and athletic fields for the LSU Athletic Department. The role involves operating a variety of equipment, assisting with event set‑up, and ensuring the facilities remain safe and presentable.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain mowing and grounds‑maintenance equipment such as diesel‑powered mowers, turf vacuums, aerators, sod cutters, and utility vehicles.
• Assist in set‑up and breakdown of athletic events including football, baseball, soccer, track, and gymnastics meets.
• Clean athletic fields, stadiums, bleachers, restrooms, and locker rooms.
• Use power hand tools (string trimmers, blowers, pruners, edgers, pressure washers, field‑marking paint machines) and perform preventative maintenance.
• Mark fields with paint and chalk for various sports.
• Perform specialty tasks such as planting, sodding, pruning, fertilization, pesticide/herbicide application, irrigation and drainage installation and maintenance.
• Support supervisors with miscellaneous tasks and train laborers, student workers, and temporary staff.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and follow training protocols.
• Physical stamina for outdoor work in various weather conditions.
