Health Unit Coordinator (PCU)

About the role

The Health Unit Coordinator (PCU) supports daily operations of the nursing unit at Kingman Healthcare. Acting as the first point of contact for patients, families, staff and physicians, the coordinator ensures smooth patient flow and accurate documentation while upholding KHI’s mission of kindness and high‑quality care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform receptionist and clerical duties, including initiating discharge folders, patient portal setup, and daily scheduling of tests, procedures and transportation.
• Maintain and organize patient medical records, conduct 24‑hour chart checks, and verify that orders and consults are entered correctly in the EMR.
• Monitor the Service Provider Workspace for stat physician orders, readmission‑risk alerts and ensure follow‑up appointments are documented.
• Provide direct patient support under RN direction, such as in‑room observation, assistance with mobility, and distribution of supplies.
• Operate video monitoring equipment, report changes in patient status, and document interventions on the Record and Video Monitoring form.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications (e.g., NAHUC) preferred.
• At least one year of experience in a healthcare or customer‑service environment.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Ability to lift up to 20 lb and assist patients weighing up to 300 lb.

Required skills

• Proficient use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for data entry and order verification.
• Operation of standard office equipment (phone, fax, printer, scanner, Vocera communication devices).
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical documentation.
