Health Aide 2 – Night Shift (Georgia)

About the role

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a compassionate Health Aide 2 to join its night‑shift team. In this position you will support adults living with serious mental illness, trauma, and behavioral challenges, helping them stay safe, develop daily living skills, and progress toward community reintegration.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
• Take vital signs and prepare patients for medical appointments.
• Facilitate social‑skill practice and self‑care routines.
• Lead group activities such as games or crafts to promote interaction.
• Transport patients to appointments and campus events.
• Monitor patient areas to prevent conflicts and ensure safety.
• Conduct safety checks for prohibited items on the unit.
• De‑escalate upset patients and provide calming support.
• Document patient progress and behavior in the electronic system.
• Collaborate with doctors, nurses, and counselors as part of the care team.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with at least six months of related experience.
• Two years of experience in a hospital, nursing home, group home, or similar care setting.
• Experience working with individuals who have mental health conditions, trauma, or behavioral challenges.
• Ability to remain calm and kind in stressful situations.
• Successful completion of a full criminal background check and drug screen.

Required skills

• Basic patient care techniques (bathing, dressing, feeding).
• Vital‑sign measurement.
• Documentation in electronic health records.
• Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams.
