Head of Underwriting – Merchant Acquiring Limited Purpose Bank

About the role

We are seeking a senior underwriting leader to own the underwriting lifecycle for strategic enterprise merchants and to serve as Head of Underwriting for our Merchant Acquiring Limited Purpose Bank (MALPB). This high‑impact role combines technical complexity with strategic autonomy and will work closely with senior management and cross‑functional partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement underwriting and onboarding strategy for the Merchant Acquiring Limited Purpose Bank, ensuring alignment with local regulatory requirements and global standards.
• Own the underwriting lifecycle for complex enterprise applications, performing deep‑dive analysis of business models, credit exposure and financial statements.
• Represent underwriting in high‑stakes external meetings with regulators, auditors and card schemes, and mitigate risks in high‑risk sectors such as travel, gambling and securities.
• Provide operational oversight for risk decisions, identify systemic improvements, and mentor junior team members.

Required profile

• 5+ years of merchant underwriting experience with a proven track record in business model assessment and credit risk identification.
• Expert‑level proficiency in analyzing profit & loss, balance sheets and cash flow statements for enterprise customers.
• Strong command of Customer Due Diligence (CDD), KYC and KYB frameworks within a regulated banking or fintech environment.
• Demonstrated strategic judgment, executive communication skills and readiness to transition into people‑leadership as the Atlanta hub expands.
