About the role
Applied Materials is a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions that enable the next generation of semiconductor chips and advanced displays. The GPS Engineer will develop procedures, support new products, and collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure reliable field performance. This full‑time position is based in Santa Clara, CA, with up to 25% travel.
Key responsibilities
- Develop new procedures and Best Known Methods (BKMs) for servicing new products.
- Contribute to the FMECA process and own first‑chamber build & test in the Apps lab.
- Solve product issues and work with Engineering to address root causes.
- Partner with Manufacturing to create final test procedures for new products.
- Collaborate with Quality & Reliability to review and resolve top field issues and lead CAPA activities.
- Conduct or facilitate Failure Analysis when required.
- Create and maintain technical product manuals, Customer Engineering Notices, and Internal Service Bulletins.
- Collect qualification data to establish product BKMs and develop training packages for new products.
- Train Customer Engineers, Process Engineers, and Technical Product Support staff.
Required profile
- Demonstrated expertise in the GPS discipline with solid knowledge of related engineering areas.
- Understanding of industry best practices, competitive landscape, and integration with other functional groups.
- Ability to lead small projects, mentor less‑experienced colleagues, and drive consensus on technical solutions.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, capable of analyzing complex information from multiple sources.
- Effective communication of technical and sensitive information to diverse audiences.
