General Accountant

About the role

The General Accountant assists the Finance Department with day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, account and bank reconciliations, workers' compensation, budgets, annual audits and other special projects. The position works in a normal office environment.

Key responsibilities

• Handle all accounts payable, from matching invoices to purchase orders, data entry, check processing, authorizations and filing closed invoices.
• Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, cash receipts, collection calls and subsidiary ledger reconciliations.
• Take part in the monthly close, preparing and posting adjusting journal entries and accruals, and explain budget versus actual variances.
• Reconcile multiple bank accounts.
• Assist the Tax Department and help prepare the annual budget through account analysis, data research and reporting.
• Participate in agreed-upon procedures (audits) for HRR and URO reports and assist outside auditors.
• Process workers' compensation claims and report filings, and help with cost containment and expense reduction.
• Follow corporate accounting policies, suggest improvements, and perform other duties assigned by management, including cross-training for backup coverage.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business (with an accounting emphasis).
• At least three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• High integrity, confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Effective oral and written communication, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and set priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in spreadsheet and other software applications.
• Preferred: working knowledge of GAAP, experience in the sports and entertainment industry, and experience with the Oracle platform.
