French Translator (Part‑Time, Technical)

About the role

We are seeking a skilled French Translator to support our Limited English Proficient (LEP) community and the professionals who serve them. This part‑time contract offers flexible scheduling and the chance to handle multiple translation, interpretation, and transcription sessions each day.

Key responsibilities

• Translate legal and law‑enforcement documents from English to French, preserving nuance and cultural context.
• Provide consecutive (and occasional simultaneous) interpretation for various settings.
• Transcribe audio recordings with high accuracy and produce clear written summaries.
• Summarize complex information, extracting key factual and abstract points.
• Utilize reference materials and conduct basic web research to ensure translation quality.

Required profile

• Fluent in both English and French, with strong written communication skills.
• Experience in legal terminology and ability to handle abstract language.
• Willingness to undergo a U.S. government background check.
• Professional experience as a translator, interpreter, transcriber, journalist, writer, or legal professional.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Office).
