For-Credit Course Instructor (Part-Time)

About the role
The Education Justice Project is seeking qualified instructors to teach for‑credit university courses inside Danville Correctional Center. Instructors will deliver 16‑week (3‑credit) or 10‑week (2‑credit) courses to incarcerated students, aligning with the UIUC academic calendar.
Key responsibilities
- Design course syllabus, select readings, create assignments and grade student work.
- Collaborate with EJP tutors, librarians, the Academic Manager and the Academic Director to support incarcerated students.
- Attend mandatory orientation, training workshops and annual climate initiative meetings.
- Track and submit student attendance records for program reporting.
- Maintain regular communication, including posting class summaries on the EJP intranet within 48 hours of each session.
Required profile
- Subject‑matter expertise and passion for teaching at the university level.
- Maturity and enthusiasm for working in a correctional‑facility learning environment.
- Eligibility to teach for‑credit University of Illinois courses.
- Commitment to designing and delivering a full‑semester (16‑week) or short (10‑week) course.
