Fiber Optic Testing Technician – Expanded Beam Optics

About the role

Join 3M’s Expanded Beam Optics business as a Fiber Optic Testing Technician. You will work on‑site in Austin, collaborating with engineers and technicians worldwide to develop and validate new optical fiber connector assemblies.

Key responsibilities

• Build and assemble prototype fiber optic connector assemblies following detailed work procedures.
• Perform performance testing of connectors using specialized optical test equipment.
• Collaborate with engineers to produce and test connector samples for experimental investigations.
• Document test results, summarize data, and assist in preparing final technical reports.
• Use Microsoft Excel for data entry, formatting, and basic analysis.

Required profile

• High School diploma/GED or higher (verified before start).
• At least one year of experience in a laboratory, pilot line, or manufacturing environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.
• Capability to assemble small, color‑coded parts by hand.
• Availability to work on‑site daily from 7 am to 4 pm.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
