Fiber Optic Specialist – Weekend First Shift

About the role

The Fiber Optic Specialist will support R&D and production teams on the SPARC fusion machine by handling, routing, splicing, testing and repairing thousands of optical fibers. Working the first shift on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the role combines hands‑on fiber work with mechanical integration and safety improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fiber handling, routing, splicing and testing using OTDR, OSA, OBR and power meters.
• Integrate small mechanical assemblies such as passthrough flanges and enclosures alongside fiber installations.
• Apply composite or polymer wrappings to protect fibers and their housings.
• Train fellow technicians on proper fiber installation, splicing and measurement procedures.
• Develop and update safety protocols for laser and fiber‑optic handling.
• Support both manufacturing and R&D fiber requirements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of experience in fiber‑optic field applications.
• Proven ability to take attenuation, insertion loss and spectral analysis measurements.
• Experience working in a laboratory environment with established fiber‑handling standards.
• Strong collaboration skills with operations, maintenance, quality and engineering teams.
