Facilities Internship – Hands‑On Experience in Building & Infrastructure

About the role

The Facilities Internship at OAEC offers a hands‑on learning experience across a wide range of building and infrastructure tasks. Interns will support the maintenance and improvement of the retreat center’s facilities, gaining practical skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and more.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on water, septic, and energy systems.
• Assist with carpentry projects, furniture building, and wood‑working tasks.
• Support electrical and plumbing installations and remodels.
• Participate in wildland, tree, and forest‑management work.
• Help with roof care, painting, staining, and aesthetic upkeep of the site.
• Carry out physical tasks such as chopping wood and transporting water.

Required profile

• Basic understanding of trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work.
• Ability to lift up to 60 lb throughout the day.
• Willingness to follow instructions and learn on the job.
• Curiosity about how things fit together and a strong work ethic.
