About the role
The Fabrication Leadman is a hands‑on leader responsible for overseeing and participating in the day‑to‑day activities of a team engaged in the fabrication, pipe fitting, welding, and testing of pipe and metal hose products. This individual ensures safety, quality, productivity, and delivery targets are met while acting as a liaison between management and shop employees.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, train and motivate fabrication personnel producing pipe and metal hose assemblies.
- Organize, delegate and monitor daily work assignments to ensure efficient workflow and on‑time order completion.
- Operate and train others on fabrication equipment such as saws, benders, welders, threading machines, presses and testing rigs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, isometrics and work orders to meet customer specifications.
- Perform precision pipe fitting, cutting, threading, grooving, bending and installation to required tolerances.
- Direct and participate in GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) welding processes, ensuring code‑compliant joints.
- Inspect finished products for quality and accuracy, initiating corrective actions when needed.
- Coordinate with sales, quality, and shipping/receiving to resolve production issues and prioritize work.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or GED; technical/vocational training in industrial fabrication or welding preferred.
- 3+ years experience in pipe and metal hose fabrication; 1+ years in a lead or supervisory role preferred.
- Strong knowledge of safety procedures and commitment to maintaining a hazard‑free work environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lb, stand, bend and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
- Willingness to work overtime or flexible hours as needed.
Required skills
- Operation of pipe saws, tube benders, welding machines, threading machines, presses and hose crimpers.
- GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) welding techniques.
- Pipe fitting and assembly, including measuring, cutting, threading and grooving.
- Blueprint, weld symbol and technical drawing interpretation.
- Knowledge of material types such as carbon/stainless pipe and braided hose.
- Shop mathematics for precise fabrication work.
