Estimator – Construction Cost & Technical Proposals

About the role

The Estimator is responsible for preparing cost, technical and commercial proposals. This role analyses blueprints, specifications and other documentation to generate time, cost and labour estimates, while interpreting safety hazards and supporting construction strategies. Work may be performed in a plant operations environment or on construction job sites.

Key responsibilities

• Review and understand bid documents published by clients.
• Determine material and labour requirements and prepare itemised lists.
• Compute cost factors and produce estimates for planning, scheduling, bidding and vendor selection.
• Consult with clients, vendors and internal teams to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
• Use established estimating procedures and policies.
• Conduct pre‑job checklists, define scope of work and coordinate the estimating team.
• Perform quantity take‑offs and prepare project bid schedules.
• Brainstorm constructability, analyse production rates and optimise indirect costs.
• Prepare technical and commercial approaches for proposals and ensure contract terms are reviewed.
• Assist colleagues as needed.

Required profile

• Physical ability to lift up to 25 lb (occasionally 50 lb), climb ladders, work on uneven terrain and endure adverse weather conditions.
• Vision requirements for close and distance focus.
• Ability to drive cars/trucks when required.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with management and supervision.
• Reading, writing and mathematical competence for calculations and safety policy compliance.
• Capability to work at varying tempos and adapt to different work environments.
