Environmental Sustainability Specialist

About the role

We are seeking mission‑driven Environmental Sustainability Specialists to oversee and advance eco‑efficiency programs. You will execute site‑specific decarbonization strategies, ensure strict federal compliance, and optimize resource resilience. Your work will directly support national clean‑energy mandates and the transition to net‑zero federal operations.

Key responsibilities

• Align site operations with DOE Orders, Federal Sustainability Plans, and executive orders on climate resilience.
• Monitor and report greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories using federal carbon accounting frameworks.
• Collaborate with facility engineers on microgrid, renewable energy, and smart‑meter implementation projects.
• Manage compliance for hazardous and non‑hazardous waste diversion, focusing on federal circular economy targets.
• Design and execute water‑use efficiency programs for complex facility infrastructure and cooling systems.
• Aggregate facility utility and emission data to complete mandatory annual Federal Automotive Statistical Tool (FAST) and sustainability dashboards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or a closely related technical field.
• 3‑5+ years managing sustainability or environmental compliance programs, preferably within federal or highly regulated sectors.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” or “Q” security clearance as required by the facility.
• Advanced proficiency in Greenhouse Gas Protocol guidelines and federal data management systems.
