Environmental Compliance Specialist – Water Quality Certifications

About the role

Join the State of Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources Wetlands Unit and help protect the Commonwealth’s water resources. The position focuses on administering Clean Water Act Section 401 water‑quality certifications, conducting site reviews, and coordinating with federal, state, and private stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and process Clean Water Act Section 401 water‑quality certifications for a variety of projects.
• Perform site reviews, prepare documentation, and coordinate with applicants, consultants, and other agencies.
• Assist with wetland delineations, jurisdictional waters determinations, and related regulatory activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, geology, engineering, or a closely related field.
• Preference for candidates with wetland professional training (WPIT or PWS) or soil‑science certification.
• Experience in environmental field work, water‑quality monitoring, and wetland regulatory activities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access for data management.
• Experience using GIS applications for spatial analysis.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office suite.
