About the role

Applied Materials is a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions that underpin semiconductor chips and advanced displays. The NPC Engineering Technician II (T2) position in Austin supports the design, testing, and assembly of electro‑mechanical systems used in cutting‑edge equipment. The role offers the chance to work on innovative projects that advance AI and next‑generation semiconductor technologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine to moderately complex electro‑mechanical tasks including design, test, checkout, fabrication, modification, troubleshooting and assembly of electronics and electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot system‑level and component‑level problems in electrical and mechanical subsystems, and conduct new system and NPI installations and field upgrades.
  • Interpret schematics, diagrams, and written or verbal descriptions to execute testing and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Compile logbooks and test procedure documentation with clear writing.
  • Conduct mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum and process testing on AMAT platforms according to engineering and manufacturing specifications.
  • Observe all safety standards, maintain a clean work environment, and report hazards or incidents promptly.

Required profile

  • Analytical mindset with ability to apply scientific methods to technical activities.
  • Understanding of how the engineering team integrates with manufacturing and other functions.
  • No supervisory responsibilities; works independently within established procedures.
  • Proactive problem‑solver who can recognize and resolve typical issues without supervision.
  • Effective communication skills for documenting and exchanging information.

Required skills

  • Electro‑mechanical system assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Circuit design and experimental circuitry.
  • Operation of specialized test equipment and fixtures.
  • Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum and process testing.
  • Interpretation of schematics and technical diagrams.
