Emergency Response Team Protection Coordinator (Child Protection)

About the role

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) Protection Coordinator will lead integrated protection and child protection programming in acute humanitarian emergencies. Working within the IRC’s Emergency Unit, the coordinator will design, launch and manage rapid response interventions while ensuring knowledge transfer to long‑term staff. The role requires frequent field deployment and up to 65% time spent on‑site in crisis zones.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct rapid context evaluations, stakeholder analyses and multisector needs assessments to identify protection risks for children, adolescents and families.
• Provide strategic direction and technical oversight for protection programming, including case management, family tracing, cash for protection and community‑based risk mitigation.
• Develop and implement VPRIE strategies, design emergency response plans, and coordinate with partners to ensure complementary protection services.
• Oversee grant and financial management, procurement, budgeting and monitoring & evaluation systems to meet donor commitments.
• Lead recruitment, training and supervision of protection staff, and ensure effective hand‑over to successor teams.

Required profile

• Fluency in written and spoken French.
• Proven experience designing, launching and managing protection or child protection programs in acute emergencies.
• Ability to work independently in fast‑paced, high‑stress environments and deliver creative, flexible solutions.
