Elevator Inspector (SkillBridge) – California

About the role
Bureau Veritas is seeking active‑duty service members eligible for the SkillBridge program to join its California inspection team. As an Elevator Inspector you will perform safety inspections of elevators, escalators, moving walks and related conveyances across commercial, residential and public facilities, ensuring compliance with California safety orders and ASME standards.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct periodic safety inspections of electric and hydraulic elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walks and lifts in accordance with Cal/OSHA regulations.
- Evaluate compliance and issue Permits to Operate for conveyances meeting safety standards.
- Interpret and apply ASME A17.1, A17.2, the Inspectors Manual and California Elevator Safety Orders.
- Maintain detailed inspection records and communicate findings to owners and operators.
- Follow NEIS safety policies and Bureau Veritas safety standards on every site.
- Collaborate with building owners, maintenance staff and the public to resolve safety issues.
- Stay current with code updates, standards changes and best‑practice inspection techniques.
Required profile
- Hold or be eligible for California Certified Elevator Inspector certification (Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 8, § 3003).
- Minimum 4 years of mechanical or electrical journeyman experience and at least 1 year of direct elevator design, construction, installation, repair or inspection experience.
- Physically able to work at heights, climb, bend and handle confined‑space environments.
- Strong communication skills and professional demeanor.
- Good moral character and fitness for the position.
Required skills
- Knowledge of ASME A17.1 and A17.2 standards.
- Familiarity with California Elevator Safety Orders and related regulations.
- Understanding of mechanical and electrical principles applied to elevators and conveyances.
- Experience with elevator inspection procedures and documentation.
- Ability to interpret technical code documents and make sound technical inferences.
