Electronics Design Engineer – Space Exploration Systems

About the role
Join a dynamic team supporting NASA on the JETS II contract, designing and delivering electronic systems for human spaceflight and deep‑space exploration. You will work in the Electrical and Electronics Design section, contributing to cutting‑edge hardware that must meet and exceed NASA standards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead or contribute to electronics design projects from concept through manufacturing, test, and deployment.
- Develop test‑stand architectures, design lab instrumentation, and create LabVIEW code for verification.
- Perform analog and digital PCB design, work with eCAD tools, and manage version control.
- Evaluate and select instrumentation (pressure transducers, flow meters, RTDs, etc.) and troubleshoot existing test systems.
- Design and test breakout boxes, sensor emulation systems, and FPGA/VHDL modules for space applications.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Master’s preferred) with 10‑15 years of related experience.
- Proven experience leading teams of electronics design engineers and defining requirements/architecture.
- Familiarity with NASA JSC standards, space‑qualified cable design, and data‑acquisition systems.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and ability to pass a government background investigation.
Required skills
- Altium Designer, PCB layout, and schematic entry tools.
- Version control (Subversion/SVN).
- LabVIEW development and National Instruments data‑acquisition hardware.
- FPGA design using Xilinx Vivado and VHDL.
- Microcontroller circuit design and embedded software development.
- Programming in C/C++ and Python.
- Circuit simulation tools (Pspice, OrCAD, Multisim).
- Test equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, function generators, power analyzers.
- Communication protocols: Ethernet, RS‑232/422/485, I²C, SPI.
