Electrical Engineering Co‑op – Summer 2027

About the role

Shield AI’s Co‑Op program offers a paid, full‑time summer placement where students work on autonomous aircraft hardware development. The role starts in June 2027 and runs for several months, providing hands‑on experience in a mission‑driven engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own a project aligned with the co‑op start date and duration, contributing directly to aircraft development objectives.
• Design, simulate, and verify high‑voltage power electronics (>10 kW) such as DC‑DC converters and DC‑AC inverters.
• Design circuit boards that include analog, digital, mixed‑signal, and high‑speed circuits for prototype flight computers.
• Collaborate with a senior engineer to bring‑up and validate new avionics systems.
• Identify bugs, drive corrective changes, and build automated test racks for flight‑critical subsystems.
• Conduct HALT campaigns to ensure reliability of new circuit boards.

Required profile

• Completed at least the second year of an Electrical Engineering or related degree.
• Strong technical fundamentals and experience on an engineering team or club.
• Demonstrated ownership of project outcomes and a record of delivering high‑quality results.
• Commitment to teamwork, high standards, and a kind, collaborative attitude.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electrical design tools such as Altium or KiCAD.
• Experience using laboratory equipment, e.g., oscilloscopes.
