About the role

Applied Materials is seeking an Electrical Engineer (E3) to develop a new family of semiconductor process tool sensors. The role involves designing, testing, and bringing up sensor hardware and firmware to support advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, test, and analyze sensor transducers, analog and digital circuits, and firmware.
  • Collaborate with sensor architects, physicists, and system HW/SW engineers to deliver complete sensor systems.
  • Integrate sensors into process chambers, verify performance, and troubleshoot hardware and embedded software.
  • Debug and repair PCBs, firmware, and system prototypes during development.
  • Participate in schematic/layout/BOM reviews and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop pass/fail test criteria and execute test procedures at supplier sites.
  • Provide status updates and proactive communication to stakeholders.

Required profile

  • MS or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.
  • 4+ years of experience in sensor development for semiconductor or vacuum process tools.
  • Strong knowledge of semiconductor processes, laser/optics or GHz/mm‑wave devices.
  • Experience with testing and debugging optical or optoelectronic assemblies.
  • Ability to work independently and with remote teams.

Required skills

  • Sensor transducer design, analog and digital circuit design.
  • Embedded firmware development and validation.
  • PCB design using Orcad and circuit simulation with Spice.
  • Serial interfaces (I2S, I2C, SPI, ADC, DAC) and industrial communication standards (ECAT, DNet).
  • Testing and debugging of optical systems, photo‑detectors, IR LEDs.
  • Familiarity with FPGA development (optional).
