Education Specialist

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks an Education Specialist to coordinate and deliver educational services for refugee and immigrant adults and their children in Iowa City. You will design, facilitate, and support classroom instruction, tutoring, and mentoring programs that promote integration and lifelong learning.

Key responsibilities

• Organize adult education classes, manage schedules, enrollment, and registration.
• Administer pre‑ and post‑assessments, record results, and provide data for program analysis.
• Pair youth participants with volunteer or intern tutors and mentors, and support them as needed.
• Facilitate multilingual classroom sessions using approved curricula, interpreters, and computer‑based learning tools.
• Collaborate with caseworkers to distribute culturally appropriate recruitment materials and community resources.
• Maintain accurate attendance, referral, and progress records using Microsoft products and digital filing systems.
• Participate in program meetings, staff development, and adhere to all IRC policies and grant requirements.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent (required); coursework or training in Education or a related field (preferred).
• Experience working with diverse, multilingual populations, preferably in a humanitarian or non‑profit setting.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple educational programs simultaneously.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other Microsoft products for data entry and reporting.
