Doctoral Lecturer – Spanish for Heritage Learners

About the role

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at John Jay College seeks a Doctoral Lecturer to teach Spanish to heritage learners. This full‑time faculty position involves a 4/4 teaching load and active participation in departmental and college service.

Key responsibilities

• Teach eight undergraduate Spanish courses per year (4/4 load).
• Recruit, advise, and mentor Spanish majors, minors, and certificate students.
• Participate in departmental and college committees and other assigned duties.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop inclusive curricula and support the college’s multicultural mission.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience teaching Spanish to heritage learners.
• Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive pedagogy.
• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
