Division Director – Public Safety Budget & Policy

About the role

The Governor's Office of Planning and Budget (OPB) seeks a senior leader to direct the Public Safety division. This role guides the development of budget recommendations and policy analysis for criminal justice, law enforcement, defense, legislative, and judicial branches, shaping the state’s strategic financial direction.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and supervise the preparation of budget recommendations for the Governor.
• Present budget and policy issues to the Director and Governor and respond to legislative inquiries.
• Review and approve agency budget submissions, amendments, allotments, and expenditure reports.
• Represent the Governor on task forces, study groups, and commissions.
• Monitor proposed legislation, draft legislation when requested, and convey the Governor’s position.
• Supervise a team of analysts, preparing briefings and presentations for senior officials.
• Provide information to legislators, state agencies, and the public on assigned program areas.
• Advise agency leaders and fiscal officers on budget and policy matters.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field with six years of government fiscal or policy experience, or a Master’s degree with four years of experience.
• Alternatively, one year at the Policy Coordinator level combined with demonstrated knowledge of state budget processes.
• Strong talent‑management abilities and a track record of innovative government transformation.
