Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Officer

About the role

The Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Officer will support the DDR Section of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations. Based in New York, the incumbent will contribute to the planning, design and implementation of DDR programmes across multiple UN missions and non‑mission settings.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement DDR policies, legal frameworks, strategies and action plans aligned with national priorities.
• Provide technical inputs and advice to DDR units, commissions, government representatives and other key stakeholders.
• Conduct research and analysis on risk assessments, armed‑group dynamics, target‑group profiles, political and security factors.
• Produce progress reports, briefings and corrective action recommendations.
• Develop initial result‑based frameworks and budgets for new DDR components.
• Support thought‑leadership activities and coordination with inter‑agency working groups and international partners.

Required profile

• Experience in DDR processes, including policy development and operational planning.
• Ability to consult with diverse stakeholders through inclusive and participatory approaches.
• Strong analytical skills for risk, threat and armed‑group assessments.
• Experience drafting reports, briefings and budget proposals.
