Director of Quality – Manufacturing

About the role

The company manufactures engineered electrical equipment for utilities and industrial customers across North America. They are seeking a hands‑on Director of Quality to lead quality across U.S. operations, stabilise existing systems and build a robust, defect‑preventive culture.

Key responsibilities

• Own quality across U.S. manufacturing sites, stabilising current processes before standardising quality management systems.
• Work directly on the shop floor with operations leadership, leading root‑cause investigations, CAPA, and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Own and report key quality metrics such as customer complaints, non‑conformance trends, warranty performance and cost of quality.
• Build and develop the quality team through training, cross‑training, mentoring and succession planning.
• Integrate quality systems into an upcoming ERP implementation.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (strongly preferred).
• 7‑10 years of progressive quality leadership in manufacturing, with direct operational experience.
• Previous management experience in a growing, less‑mature organization.
• Experience in engineered‑to‑order electrical manufacturing (e.g., power or distribution transformers, switchgear, motors, drives).
• Proven project‑management skills and a track record of leading change and fostering collaboration between quality and operations.

Required skills

• ISO 9001 implementation and maintenance.
• Root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action systems.
• Statistical Process Control (SPC).
• Audit leadership (internal and external).
• Project management.
• Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) – preferred.
• ASQ CMQ/OE or CQE certification – preferred.
• ERP integration experience – preferred.
