Director of Finance

About the role

The Century Foundation, a leading progressive think tank, is looking for a Director of Finance to lead its fiscal and operational functions. Based in New York with a hybrid schedule, the role reports to the COO and partners closely with the Deputy Director of Finance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting activities, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, cash‑flow monitoring, investment tracking and tax filings.
• Prepare and present monthly financial reports and budget‑to‑actual analyses for grants, projects and programs.
• Develop and enforce fiscal policies, internal controls and non‑profit GAAP compliance.
• Manage grant and contract fiscal requirements, reporting to funders and monitoring compliance.
• Coordinate the annual audit, prepare supporting schedules and liaise with the Board Audit Committee.
• Supervise payroll, benefits administration and related HR tasks.

Required profile

• 8‑10 years of finance and investment accounting experience in the nonprofit sector.
• Proven ability to communicate complex financial information to leadership and staff.
• Self‑starter with a proactive, change‑making mindset.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with FundEZ or an equivalent accounting system.

What we offer

• Competitive salary range $150,000 – $155,000 per year.
